Implementation of Boolean PSO for Service Restoration Using Distribution Network Reconfiguration Simultaneously With Distributed Energy Resources and Capacitor Banks

Essam Mazloum Ali, Azza Ahmed ElDesouky

Abstract

This paper proposes an effective approach based on the integration of the Boolean algebra and particle swarm optimization (PSO) in the binary space to restore service to isolated sections of the distribution system.  Firstly, the proposed approach identifies the switching operation plan for feeder reconfiguration. Then, the distributed energy resources (DERs) and capacitor banks (C-Bs) are allocated simultaneously after network reconfiguration. Different scenarios are studied with the objective of improving the system voltage stability index (VSI) taking into consideration different operating constraints. Typical IEEE distribution systems consisting of 33 and 69 buses are simulated in order to validate the benefit of the proposed approach. The simulation results show the effectiveness and resilience of the proposed approach compared with other existing methods.
