Abstract

The power system must be operated in such a way that it must be able to deliver the power without power quality issues and also with high reliability. As the reliability can be achieved with the help of  more number of parallel transmission lines but the power quality issue arises frequently in the network. There are many reasons for unable to maintain proper quality in the supply, mainly due to occurrence of fault, sudden increase in the load demand or reduction in the load demand. The major problem that comes into picture is the occurrence of fault in the power system which is an undesirable aspect. Due to this the voltage will fall subsequently and the loads will malfunction. For limiting the fault current and operate the system under particular voltage levels many topologies are implemented, some of them used reactors, superconducting fault current limiter, solid state FCl, resonance type are usually implemented. Here we are implementing  a parallel resonance  fault current limiter and introducing a semiconductor switch in the bridge topology that is going to give a reasonable output for limiting the fault current in the system. The model is been simulated in the MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are studied.
